Southern African Journal of Gerontology

The Southern African Journal of Gerontology (SAJG) was a multidisciplinary journal that published contributions (articles on original research, review articles, book reviews and comments on articles already published) from any field of gerontology.

The journal was designed to reflect the expanding role of research on ageing and the development of gerontology in southern Africa. The first issue was published in 1993, with the final publication in 2000.

The objectives of the journal were:

  • To stimulate disciplinary and interdisciplinary research on ageing in southern Africa and to publish related scientific articles
  • To disseminate new research findings relating to ageing in southern Africa
  • To stimulate thought on theoretical, methodological and substantive issues relating to ageing and research on ageing in the region
  • To establish a corpus of gerontologists in the region
