Abstract

A paper presented to the Music Section of the Commonwealth Arts Festival Conference — Liverpool University. 24th September, 1965. So the theme of my proposition is this: 1. That Africa has something important to contribute to the sum of world music. 2. That by fostering their genuinely indigenous music, Africa may bridge the gap between itself and the West, and between literate and prclitcrate in its own society, 3. and that by doing so, Africa could make from its legacy of musical talent, a unique contribution to modern education.
